CI Jonathan Stone has been appointed Executive Director of the Bosch Institute at the University of Sydney ( http://www.bosch.org.au/ <http://www.bosch.org.au/), from the beginning of this month.
The Bosch Institute is a University centre which comprises ~80 laboratories and their research teams. The Institute's research work is in the medical sciences and is organised into 5 themes:
The grant income (all sources) is ~ $17m per annum; with corresponding research staff, students and publicaitons. The Institute has established three common research facilities, Advanced Imaging, Molecular Biology and Cell Sorting. These are growing rapidly; the Advanced Imaging Facility, for example, will this year deploy a laser capture microdissection system, and a two-photon confocal for in vivo work, and Jonathan is confident that more will established soon These facilities enhance the research potential of member laboratories, through their capabilities and training workshops. The Insititute also has a strong program of mentoring of young scientists, through scientific meetings, retreats and workshops. The laboratories of all Sydney CIs of ACEVS are members of, or are affiliated with, the Bosch Institute, and their Centre-supported work is significantly strengthened by Bosch facilities.
